Does anyone know how to remove the ignition cylinder from the steering column without the original ignition key? I don't want to damage the steering column or any of the other components.
I rebuilt my column using Jim's papers. Excellent resource. I cut down the width of a band saw blade to use in the slot that releases the cylinder when you get to that point in Jim's papers.
What year Corvette? What type steering column; standard (non-adjustable) or T&T?
It is not that bad a job. You will need a steering wheel puller. If you have a T&T it is best to borrow, purchase, or rent a special lock plate compressor tool in order to more easily remove the locking plate.
It is a 72 with a standard steering column. I bought the car as a project and the previous owner did not have the ignition key. So I am trying to remove the old cylinder so that I can install a new one.
