Default 76 4spd no reverse

I lost my previous post on this matter. The car shifts normally in all (4) forward gears. However, when I lift the T-Bar it will not shift into reverse. I have lubed + tightened all the linkages, there is a rod connected to the T-Bar. The ingnition lock on the T + T column does not need a key in order to start the car and it does not return back to the lock position. As advised by another forum member, I checked the COLUMN BACK DRIVE SYSTEM (under brake booster). I manually lifted this and the car would then go into reverse. However, it would not go into any forward gears, it seemed to be stuck in reverse. I had to manually release the linkage on the tranmission in order to get the forward gears back and then the problem repeated itself.

I have a hunch it is the COLUMN BACK DRIVE SYSTEM + IGNITION LOCK. If I am correct, how should I proceed? Do I need to remove the whole steering column or just the steering wheel to access the ignition lock? I would appreciate any advise and I thank you in advance.

P.S. When I have the car in reverse, it seemed like reverse was where 1st gear should be. When I would attempt to put the car in any forward gear, the car would stall.

You should be able to test it by disconnecting the interlock cable on the steering column. It's one little clip and then pull the cable end off the pin. I think by pulling up on the cable and not having the shifter in reverse will cause the shifter to get locked out.

Does it move over to the left into the gate? The T-Bar prevents the shifter from getting into the reverse gate. The interlock cable prevents the shifter from moving up and engaging reserve gear.

When I lift on the T Bar and try reverse, it feels like it is not moving far enough left or like you described "into the gate". I will try your suggestion and DC the interlock cable tomorrow. Question: If I was to remove the T-Bar and rod, would I be able to put it into reverse (as a process of elimination)? Thanks for your help.

With the T Bar up AND the linkage aligned, it should move over. Maybe something is lodged down inside the shifter shaft?

I believe I have isolated the problem to LEVER BRACKET ASSEMBLY. It feels like the shift lever does not go over far enough to the left to make up into reverse. From up top, all I can see is the bottom of the shift lever hitting a LINKAGE?, BRACKET? (not sure). It is not getting into the reverse gate.

Again, if I pull up on the INTERLOCK CABLE it shifts into reverse, I then have to manually take it out of reverse from under the car.

Any suggestions?
