I would say my dream engine would be an all aluminum engine based on the LS1 race block. Short stroke 180 degree crank, 400 CID, making 900 hp with a redline of 9000 rpm. Of course an overhead cam, four valve engine would be cool if......

Monty - yeah, I'm drooling big time! Saw your engine over on another forum - looking good! Those wastegates look like mini-chainsaw motors to me. OK, what are you REALLY up to? ;)
Steve, I think I saw that motor in a car mag (Hot Rod, PHR) a few months back. If I remember correctly, practically every engine component is custom from Allstar. I don't think there's much, if anything, you can use from a BBC. That may have changed since then though...

Man, I'm not up to anything other than trying to get it done so I can drive it soon. I could have had the car last weekend if Fedex hadn't lost my intercooler core. Turbonetics/Spearco sent us out another core this morning via over-night by 10am. So we'll ahve all day tomorrow and whatever it takes saturday to finish it up and truck it back up to my garage on saturday.

Once I get the car back saturday, the engine and twin turbo system comes back out so I can take the block and crank to the machine shop to be honed for the new pistons and rebalance the crank. The guys at the machine shop promised me to do it right away, so I should be able to get the motor dynoed within the next month, and get the car finished in the meantime. Once the motor is dyno'd and the FAST is tuned, I can get the motor back in it within a day or two. I doubt I'll make the Forum Cruise-in though...:(

You've got to be getting real close now as well?

Something much less exotic than some of the motors mentioned above. How about that modified 383 truck crate engine that was featured in Hot Rod recently. Made over 500 lb-ft of torque and 460+ hp with just a few bolt-ons. That would be awfully sweet in my engine compartment.

I have to say, complete dreaming aside, basically Monty's setup. A small block to keep the package small and light, big cubes to make some power. And intercooled, turbocharged EFI is definately the way to go for an efficient power adder, because as we all know, you just can't make enough power with ONLY 427 cubes, right monty? :) Twin turbo is good for packaging and heat distribution purposes, and fitting 1000+ always-on-tap horsese under a stock small block hood makes for a pretty bad sleeper, not to mention helps keep the center of gravity low for good handling.

Pair that up with a six speed, a Tom's 12 bolt setup, and some good adjustable (how about adjustable from the drivers seat) shocks, and that would be a FUN FUN FUN streetable car. And when you go to the strip you can always crank up the boost and run some race gas to click off some really impressive times.
