Help finding ring & pinion part #'s
I want to make sure they are for the car before i pull the rear end apart.
Both the gear and pinion have dana numbers on them but they dont come up when i search the dana website.
I'm thinking this is because they were gm issued parts?
Is there a way to trace these numbers?
Numbers on ring gear: Spicer 6385 T18437 MAIAD 986 46-13
pinion: Spicer T 32171 46-13 MAIAD 964 1
The 46-13 on the gears, indicates the ratio. To determine the ratio, divide 46 by 13. 46 divided by 13 is 3.53846, or a 3.54:1 gear ratio.
I'm not too sure about that being an OEM set of gears though.
The only OEM gears offered for the 80-82 rear, were 3.07, 2.87 & 2.72. The aftermarket offered additional ratios, but I'm not aware that they were ever offered through GM.
Was hoping there was a way to trace the numbers to find out exactly what i have before tearing out the rear.
Performance parts were listed in either the older "Chevy Power" books, or more recently the "GM Performance Parts" Catalog. Unfortunately, I don't have any of these books from the 80's. My Chevy Power book is from 1978 and all of my Performance Parts Catalogs are from the 90's-00's.
None of the Performance Parts Catalogs I have list any gear sets for the Corvette Dana 44 rears. The only Dana 44 gears they list are for the Camaro/Firebird, along with gears sets for various 10 bolt rears.
I took a quick look at the Dana/Spicer website, and the only ratios they list for any of the Corvette rears (the 80-82 44, the 84 up 44 and the 84 up 36) are the stock ratios too.
