Yes Sir; I use 10W-40 Amsoil, 100% Synthetic in my 330 H.P. Corvette, I use 10W-30 Valvoline 100% Synthetic in my 290 H. P. 1957 Chevy, & I use 10W-30 Valvoline regular oil in my 220 H. P. El Camino. But in trucks I owned in my business, I ran just regular oil, with 300K on the clocks & never had a problem with any of them. I think keeping your oil Clean is the way to go. Mike Ward is right on. Use what is in your manual, if you just want regular service. Have a great day. Gene

5W multi-grade oil is mainly for use in cold environments. 5W at 0 degrees is still fairly thick and will stay on cylinder walls. 5W in warm environments will run off of surfaces pretty quickly and not provide you with much start-up lubrication. In non-winter conditions, 10W30 oil is probably the best choice in the U.S.
