Default Distributor problem please help

Ok heres my dilema. I just changed out my intake and carb to an edelebrock combo and I made a novice mistake my not marking my timing on the distributor. I had to find TDC and do some handcranking and when I put the distributor back in I cant get it to sit flush on the manifold. It sits maybe 1/4 of an inch or so above the gasket ring....is that right? what am i doiing wrong! ugh

Just crank the motor over and the "Tang" on the bottom of the distributor will line up with the "Slot" on the top of the oil pump and it will drop down.

You could also pull the distributor and turn the oil pump shaft with a screwdriver than reinstall.

Sometimes, if you just give it a good wiggle, it'll drop in, but yeah, turn the engine over with a breaker bar, and it'll drop in. Bring it back around to tdc on compression stroke for cyl #1, and whichever terminal the rotor is pointing at is number 1, then just go clockwise, 18436572. Wait.......clockwise, right? Someone wanna help me out here? It's been awhile since I've had to do this myself.
