Default Exhaust

What kind of Exhaust is everyone running and are they happy with it?

Im not looking for something really loud but with a nice tone to it. I was just going to get some flowmasters but i didnt know if there were some other recomendations.

Thanks

I just got a 2.5" aluminized steel exhaust kit from Allen's Stainless Corvette (or something like that). It is designed to go right into the exhaust manifolds. It is true dual exhaust (no cats). Eventually I will get headers in a couple years and have the front of the exhaust re-routed by a shop when the time comes.

I know Pypes makes a kit (but comes with mufflers) and Hookers makes a kit (but only 2.25" pipes). That is why I went with Allens. You could go to a muffler shop and maybe for a bit more have them custom make one for you. I paid 210 plus shipping (maybe 25ish), so a muffler shop should be able to do it for around then and then you will pay them to install it also.

I am thinking about getting the flowmaster super 44s, or the delta 40s. tough call

Headers w/ custom duals.

Dynomax mufflers are another option.

Aluminized pipes are better than galvanized...but not as good as stainless. IMO, stainless pipes are very expensive and unnecessary, unless you drive it in the rain and during winter weather. I put an aluminized set on 6 years ago and have almost no corrosion. (Of course, I also use VHT aluminum paint on the pipes/mufflers on the outside just to keep them looking nice.)

I'm running the 2.5" chambered exhaust from Allen's and McJacks shorty headers. Easy install and sounds pretty good. Not to loud but you can hear me coming.

68 L36 - Hedman ceramic coated headers, 2 1/2 (non-mandrel bent) pipes and Flows. I don't care so much for the Flowmaster sound, but others like them. Overall it is a good street system, better than stock. BB's seem to like headers... It makes a lot of noise. The chrome tips out the back are perfect.

Hi,
I have a 1980 l48 auto, pretty much the same exhaust system for '80-'82. I ordered the dual exhaust system from Corvette Central Exhaust about 3 years ago. I'm pretty happy with it. It comes with ceramic coated block-hugger headers, Magnaflow mufflers, and aluminized 2 1/2" dual exhaust. It routes the driver's side exhaust pipe over to the passenger side to go past the transmission cross member in place of the old cat converter. It's actually a pretty clever solution to not having the older style dual exhaust crossmember. The price is pretty reasonable, too, $638.00, something like that.

Hey, I live in Oxford, right down 290, maybe we can get together and help each other out sometime. You buy the beer, I'll help turn a wrench.

Summit Raceing headers, 2 1/2" dual exhaust.
2/1/4" Cherry Bomb mufflers.

The 2 1/4 mufflers slide right in the 2 1/2 exhaust.

I get complements all the time about the sound.
Nice low rumble at cruse n speed

Got my Summit brand headers that fit perfect that only cost $109.
Will mate them to 2.5 aluminumized custom built exhaust pipes and to end it all will be the most noticeable parts of all, a set of Flowmasters that was on a flipped over Mustang GT, 70 Coronet and then an 81 Camaro and now will live out their lives under a 76 4-speed Vette!!!!
