Default New starter dead

Replaced the starter on my '79 L48, 4spd. Got it all put together cranked it over and it started fine. Got in this morning to go to work and nothing, no click. All the connections appear to tight. I'll check the 's' terminal to make sure I have 12 volts and I'll try jumping the solenoid when I get home, anything else I should look at?

I'd guess a loose terminal somewhere or a bad ground. I am going through a similar problem, except my starter broke the nose off and locked the flywheel. No damage except the starter, but I have to take my headers off to get the flexplate cover off to retrieve the missing chunk. Bummer!

I bought 2 remanufactered starters last week. Both did the same thing, one click and dead. About every 4th try the starter would work. I tested the starter to find out it was drawing 50amps at the starter. I then bought a new one and all is good. If you bought a reman you might want to think new. When I bought my first 2 I didn't know they were reman just thought I was geting a good price on new. Definitely clean all connections before trying anything else.. A good one to look at is the main cable coming from the battery. Where it turns at the rear of the block before going to the starter it has a tendancy to rub. Mine was like that. Fixed another problem Good luck

Make certain all connections for the battery cables are clean and tight. Also verify that the main engine/frame ground wire is in place and has good connections. These are the most common faults for repeated starter problems. Another common failure point is the starter solenoid and proper wiring connected to it.
