Later models have an aux. el. fan that mounts to the shroud. I have one (shroud w/ el. fan) in my 77. Mounts like factory. A more powerful fan would be better & there may be one that fits.

I made a mount that attached to the fan shroud with metal strapping. I bolted a 13" Spal fan to the straps with short screws and nylon lock nuts. It had plenty of room.
That was before I installed the Dewitt rad and dual Spal fans.

Installing an electric fan between the engine-driven fan and the radiator will have very limited benefits....unless your thermal controlled fan is not really working at all. The electric fan will just block more airflow, I think. I'm not suggesting that the total 'work' those 2 fans do will be any greater than what one fan does alone...just that the entire system may be less efficient because of the added airflow restriction.

If the stock fan mechanism is the real 'problem' with your system, why not try replacing the thermal clutch first to see how it responds?
