Ok, after months of rebuilding the front end, I started putting everything back together, as I was getting ready to wire up the alternator, in a rush I forgot to disconnect the battery, rookie mistake.
As luck would have it, I brushed up against the mechanics blanket on the left bumper and it push my ALt battery wire against my alternator and then came the fireworks. Following a heart wrenching spark and smoke, I now have no power to the car. Yes the battery is fully charged and Yes I checked the fuse box. All good.
So with my limited experience I throw the question out, what next. Thanks for the help in advance.
You likely just burned up one fusible link. That is exactly what is supposed to happen with a major short that is accidental :o or if an accessory fails and has a complete short. The smoke was probably the fusible link insulation frying (it shouldn't catch fire as the insulation on fusible links should be non-flammable).
Other than the link's insulation looking blackened, you won't be able to see any visual difference; but the wire inside it will be gone/melted.
P.S. While you are going about that repair, it is an excellent time to install a battery disconnect [on the positive side, IMO].
