Default Headers melting plug wires

All,

Tranny came out great! Thanks for the advice. Now I have another issue that you all may be able to help me with. The headers I have on the engine are burning up spark plug wires even with the boot protectors on. Long story short I think they may have the wrong headers. I am looking to put on the right ones and possibly wrap them as well to reduce under the hood temp. So what kind of headers have you had good luck with?

Try the shorter plugs and use high temp wires.

Forget anything other than a few/set of Jacobs ceramic boots....I bought a set when that was driving me KRAZYYYY some years ago....use RTV to seal the wire into the end and it does look as you will need shorter shank plugs....you don't necessarily have to go the super expensive accell route, AC makes shorter plugs too, maybe not AS short, but not full length on the ceramic either....

do some catalog shopping, you will find them listed......

I have a similar condition and had sucess with the right angle red MSD high temp boots with a shorty plug. I was able to slide the boot on my existing 8mm wires.
I must admit I also put a small ding in the header pipe to help out. (It only hurt for a little while )

Thanks guys, I called a major retailer and they agree that I have the wrong headers. The shorty headers that I have are meant for heads that have an angled spark plug port. Anyhow I ordered new headers, gaskets, and the collector. The pic above was with the short spark plug already installed so you can see just how tight it is. If anyone has an engine build that could use a pair of shorty chrome headers let me know and I will make you a great deal.
