Default 68 Headlight Clunk

My passenger side headlight clunks loudly when opening and closing. The clunk is at the end of the housings travel. Cannot find any rubber stop to replace. Where to start?

These HL assembly's get pretty loose over time. Try putting your hand on top of the bucket and have someone else turn the lights on and see if a little resistance from your hand will lessen the clunk. If so you might try adjusting the up limit arm or putting a rubber block on it so it will hit slightly before the locking dog leg locks. Hope that makes sense.
There is also an adjustment procedure of the clevis or turnbuckle that might help.
And you might just need to rebuild the assembly.

Isn't that how you know they are in place?

Hi,
I believe the open position is set by the adjustment screw that's on the long, flat, metal arm that's bolted to the side of the headlight housing and bumps against the mechanism frame. Various venders, (Dr. R.), sell a round, black rubber bumper that fits on the end of that screw, and helps quiet the bang as the door reaches the full open postion.
Worth a try?
Regards,
Alan
