Default Vanity mirror

I dont know if this is a tech and performance question -- but here it goes.

I tried to get the lights on my vanity mirror to work this weekend only to find that the little switch is broken. All I could find on the internet was complete mirror assemblies for $100+. The switch cant cost more than a few bucks.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement for the switch?

Search the internet for "miniature electric switches". If you can find something similar, get the brand name and model number. Then search web for that specific part and where to buy. I would think that Radio Shack is a place that could have something similar that you could make work. If you want the exact part to replace it....good luck.

I have the identical problem with the switch. I have managed to take the vanity mirror and cover OFF of the sunvisor, but have not yet seen exactly how to remove the switch itself. It looks like the switch may be pressed onto two small tabs, but I cannot really deetermine that. Also, are the electrical wires soldered on this switch or can I remove them from the connectors?
Thanks...Dave K

That switch is extremely delicate. My experience is that you cannot work on it without breaking it and I was unable to find a replacement. Eventually I had to buy a used mirror

If I had to do it again I would have filled the switch with a cleaner like detox it and jut kept working it till it cleaned itself

Good luck

I ended up breaking the micro-switch when I removed it, as expected. I have actually installed a different mirror, case and lid assembly WITHOUT the small switch installed. However, in the process I CUT OFF the wiring from the original switch, taped it up and pushed it behind the passenger side window pillar. All LOOKS well...however, since I have cut the wiring, I now have no glove box, interior, or overhead dome lighting. Not undertanding the wiring itself...2-black wires ran to the switch from under the glove box I believe. Can I simply splice these together to get the lighting working again, and if not what is the recommended solution. I do NOT care if the lights on the vanity mirror itself work, but I do want the others operational.
Thanks....Dave K (80 vette)

NO you can not splice them. My guess is you accidentally touched the two wires together (or they are shorted against the window pillar) and that caused you to blow the courtesy fuze. Check the fuze, then make sure that the two ends of the wires you cut are isolated from each other and other pieces of metal (electrical tape)

The switch is a pos

It is held in by little plastic posts that have been melted over. To remove it you have to gently grind the tiny tabs off with a dremel.

The switch is simply a tiny spring and insulater that completes the connection when the spring opens and the wires connect.

The two black wires run down the windshield post to a plug behind the glove box. You can unplug and remove the wires without effecting any other operation.

You don't have to cut any wires. You probably cut the wrong one.

Mine is intermittent. I tell my gf if it's dark enough that she needs the lights, she doesn't really need to worry about her makeup at that point.
