Well, I bought a Corvette over the weekend. I was never really sure if I would ever get one. It sure seems like a fun car.
I have been into 6 cylinder hot rods forever, so this is a "new" car for me, and my first bent engine. I bought a 72 coupe, 350, 4 speed, 3.70's. It seems like the car has never really been altered or modified much, but does need some repair.
From what I can tell, I should get the AIM. How about the DVD's from the NCRS? Are they valuable? How about the Chassis Service manual?
Can anyone point me in the right direction on the most useful manuals or publications to help me take care of my car?
Congrat's,
I too just got my 1st vette end of August.
I ordered the service manual so I'm not breaking things.
Orig is great if its still there and judging is your interest.
I find a good clean reliable car is so much fun to drive
That's why I got mine.
Enjoy
Marshal
WECOME TO THE "BENT" ENGINE SHARK POND. EVERYBODY HERE WILL HELP AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. BIGGEST THING IS TO MAKE IT RELIABLE AND SAFE. EVERYTHING ELSE YOU MAY WANT TO DO WILL COME LATER. CONGRATS!!!
I never opened a photobucket account and I guess it takes that to post a photo. its just a boring old red coupe but it sure is a lot of fun to drive.
I found the protectoplate in a box of paperwork too, so I am going to try and run down the guy that bought it in 72.
This forum sure is helpful and welcoming. It sure is appreciated. I have learned a lot already. I am finding that corvette owners, at least the ones here, arent nearly as full of themselves as some say they are (maybe its just the C3 guys that are cool . I am glad I am here. Nice cars, nice people.
I just bought the AIM and Chassis Service manual. The only issue I have is with the Chassis Service manual. The copies that are used for this publication are too dark and not very clear (the pictures at least). I also recall seeing a link here on the forum for an online version that you can just print out for free.
Hi 6iar,
New, old, Corvette!!!! Now the big fun really starts!
I'm glad you're here... and in my mind there's not much wrong with red coupes!
Pictures change everything.
Regards,
Alan
You can't go wrong with a red vette! Enjoy the car. It will often give you something to do either fun using it or fun figuring out why it did what it did or wouldn't do what it should.
You have to step back now and then, look at it, love it and say to yourself: This car is now39 years old and marvel at it.
Its hard to believe that this car is almost as old as a Model A was when I was in high school. I guess that means I am an old fart, because this car isnt THAT old!!
Boy you Corvette guys are enthusiastic about your cars. Wait a minute, maybe I am becoming one of you....
