Goodmorning. Could someone with an origonal dipstick in their LT1 please give me the measurments . Length from the seal area to the end, and the full and add marks .
Mine has been replaced with a chrome one and I don't think it is accurate.
You will also need the length of the tube (from the tube end to the mounting face on the block). Otherwise, if you and any responder have different tube lengths, your marks will be wrong.

The tube is 6 1/4" from the top to the block surface .
My [stock] L-48 dipstick tube is {by my best approximation, since it is assembled and engine in the car} 9-1/2" long. The level marks are the following distances from the inside/upper end of the cap [where the dipstick tube would contact when dipstick is installed]: FULL mark -- 20-1/8"; COLD mark - 20-7/8".
Based on your 6-1/4" tube length, you need markings at 16-7/8" (FULL) and 17-5/8" (COLD) from the point where the tube would make solid contact.
As mentioned above, change oil and filter; fill the new filter with oil before installing it and add 4 quarts of new oil. Run engine for about 1 minute, then let set for 30 minutes. Check level of new oil against the (new) "COLD" mark. Then drive car for 15 minutes or so, shut off and let set for 15 minutes. Check oil level against (new) "FULL" mark. Make any 'adjustments' that you feel need to be made.
If there are discrepancies between the new marks and the actual oil level found in your checking, I would default to the actual oil level positions.
