my blinkers went out on my 77 vette, i found the two prong flasher on passenger side and changed it still no luck. I was told there was a second flasher so i started looking and found a second flasher under dash so hot i couldn't touch it.Nobody seems to know what it is. It is silver with a black ground strap coming out of it and a wierd pin config. I have spent hours on this and ran into a dead end, please help. P.S. I would like to put an electronic flasher in.
Well, that "hot" flasher may or may not be for your "blinkers" (turn signals or emergency flashers??), but it is most certainly a failed flasher unit. It must have failed in a 'short' condition for it to be hot. You should remove it, no matter what else you do. It will certainly cause a constant drain on the battery (maybe not with the key "OFF"), and a "hot" component is never a good thing.
It should have a part number on it; find a replacement and plug it in. Hopefully, that will fix your problem...but it will certainly repair a 'fault' that should be addressed anyway.
I think you are describing a Philips relay or similar devise that is not original equipment. Do you have any modifications to your car as far as lighting, LEDS, fog lights, neon lights, etc.? When you says pins do you mean blades?
There are no such mods. As far as i can tell the only thing affected is blinkers. Auto zone has a three blade flasher relay listed for 77 corvette but no picture and special order.
That is the delay timer for the interior lights. They are no longer available.
If you want to eliminate it connect the white wires together and the lights will work without a delay.
