Default Tachometer with MSD

I just put a complete msd ingnition system in my 71 and my mechanic told me i cant use the stock tach anymore because the original is wire driven.

Is their a special parts i can buy to still use the original tach. Else im gonna have to buy a autometer and put it on the steering column wich i prefer not to do!!!

The stock distributor in 1971 had a mechanical cable going to the tachometer, it was not electric. So what exactly is in your car as far as the distributor is concerned, did you replace it with an MSD and didnt buy the correct one with a tach drive?

You have choices:
1. Put the factory distributor back in.
2. Get the correct MSD distributor with a mechanical tach drive.
3. See if the tachometer from a 1975 car can be made to fit yours.

Another thing to throw into mix, even if going electric. Installed a few MSD 6AL boxes, and wont work with anything but an MSD tach. There is an adapter module availible for about $75 bucks though.

Just curious, why a tach from a 1975? is that the only year electric tach that fits? Has any one done this conversion and how difficult is it?
