Default drivers side door sags

the drivers side door on my '74 sags a bit...it still opens and closes properly...could this be fixed with a new door spring?

Sound like a complete hinge is bad or a worn hinge pin. The little "s" shaped springs only hold the door open when on a slight incline and have nothing to do with holding the door up and keeping it aligned.

Take yor car to a small body shop they can check the hinge if they say its ok they have a tool to adjust your door, WARNING! you may cringe when you see what they do but it only cost me $10 to get it dine.

Open the door just a small amount. Like 6" off the latch. Lift up and down on the latch end of the door to see if it moves up and down. With a worn hinge pin and or bushing, it usually will. More play is usually evident with the door nearer the closed position.

Jvette is correct. Sounds like you need to replace the hinge bushings and pins. Its not really a big job, you just have to take care and not chip the paint on the leading edge door gap.

If the hinges and hinge pins/bushings are OK, you can take off the door panel to get access to the bolts that mount the hinge to the door. You can then loosen/adjust those bolts to change the fore/aft and tilt of the door. Chuck
