Does this **** unscrew? If so - clockwise or counter clockwise. **** pushed all the way in? I tried the foregoing counter clockwise with the **** pushed in. Thanks Ed
Remove the center screw from the ****, with a small flat blade screwdriver.
As you know, it worked thanks. I dropped the screw behind the panel so now I have to find it. I tried a magnet with no luck. If I don't find it what size is the screw or what is the part number? Thanks again
Ed
It's really not a screw, but instead it's an internally threaded "socket", with a slotted screw head.
I have no idea what size it is, and the only way that I know you can buy one, is in the sets that comes with the **** and the screw (actually the set comes with 2 different length ***** and the screw).
I was messing with this also recently and was wondering is the chrome **** suppose to sit outside the hole in the console or nest right into it? Mine sticks out a bit and I think it looks wrong.

The **** is on the end of the clock stem. It will not necessarily be up against the bezel, but it also should not be sticking too far out. If yours is way out, it's possible the wrong clock stem was installed by a PO (there's a long and short stem).
Hi,
Originally there was a short black plastic 'sleeve' that slid on to the clock's shaft before the **** went on and the screw went on. It's about 1/4-3/8" long and fills the gap between the **** and the face of the gauge bezel.
It's shown as an item in the AIM.
Regards,
Alan

Dang. Alan is a fountain of info. My clock is missing the plastic bushing too. Would have never known.
I wish Alan could come look at my convertible top and tell me why it isn't kosher.......

I understand this is an old post. Any idea where to pick up the clock shaft sleeve? Original or repro?
