Default 79 hood

Ok post try #3

Hood on my 79 wont close flush. Stays up about 1/4" after closing it.

The latches have spacers underthem, after taking them out one at a time hood wont latch. Any suggestions??

Here's a pic but not of the hood latched, just laying down, but this gives ya an idea, once again NOT LATCHED just laying there :)

Thanks,
Mike

Is the hood hitting the air cleaner?

There are bumpers along the drip rail that the hood fits to. If you remove them does the hood go down?

Is the hood seal loose? Or new?

If no to all of the above, look at how the hood fits at, and ahead of, the hinge area. Can these be shimmed up to level it out?

Not hitting air filter:

Just removed bumpers and yes it shuts but doesn't help:

Weather strip is original but I can see where two of the bumpers are hitting it.

Took shims out and hood wont latch then. 4 shims on drivers 2 on passingers, took all out at once, wouldn't close, put all back but one, still wouldnt latch.

If it latches with the shims in place and won't when you remove the shims then the hood is hitting something. Maybe the hood prop isn't going down all the way?

Just came back in from looking, looks like the long thin bold in the middle of the carb is hitting the insulation, maybe this is it, trying to get bolt out now to see.

Build quality on the C3s was mediocre at best. I would not be terribly concerned about a 1/4" rise at the windshield end of the hood. Mine will rise and fall slightly with temperature.

Mike,
If you look carefully at my pic you will see a 1/4" rise on the end of the hood vs the fender. I have lived with this and consider it normal. I guess the message is do not expect perfection in body alignment with C3. Their quirks give them character ;) .

My 79 hood passenger side is the same way. It latches just fine, but it's up about 1/4" also.

Paul,
Great pic, that pin striping really sets off your car. Great shine on the car, too.
