Used the Eastwood exhaust manifold coating.Wire brushed the manifolds as best I could, heated a section with a map gas torch and applied the coating.Watch out for the flames if you put to much on at once.Looks great since August! [IMG][/IMG]

Hi,
I've used Cast Blast High Temp.
It seems to be holding up well even with some driving time now.
You can tell the manifolds aren't 'natural , but the paint gives a nice flat, medium gray, finish.
Regards,
Alan
Your manifolds are perfectly 'natural'....for a part that was just knocked out of the casting mold. After a day or two, those pristine castings begin to oxidize and slowly turn a brownish color as they start to rust. But, I couldn't tell your manifolds from a clean, uncoated one.
I use Seymour "Cast Blast" (don't know if that's the same brand you use, or not) and get the same kind of results. What's amazing is that they just stay that way over time...no changing color, no flaking, chipping, peeling. Great stuff and the 'truest' looking painted manifolds I've ever seen.
Hi Charlie,
That's Seymour "Cast Blast", too.
To my eye the color is too perfectly consistant; I think bare cast iron has at least SOME variation in it's color.
BUT, I certainly like the "Cast Blast" look.

Alan
Hi 69,
Yes, I lost 1 point for the manifolds. The line includes the manifolds, fasteners, and locks.
I took 1 point for each manifold when I judged the car. The car scored quite a bit higher at the Chapter Meet than in my garage!?!
Regards,
Alan
Well, you took off the points because you knew they were painted. But, they don't look painted, so another judge would be hard pressed to dock you for paint on them. If I understand Mike Ward's statement of the NCRS 'strategy', if it appears as original, it get's the full points allowed for being original. {Or did I get it wrong again?}
Hi Charley,
No you're right.
If it appears to be typical of factory production.......
For originality they were looking at Configuration, Date, Completeness, Installation, and Finish. So when you begin to divide the total points for the line by the items that make up the line, (and maybe weigh their importance), there's not too many points to be earned or lost for just the one facet of originality in question 'finish'.

Alan
