Re: C5's Dont Wave .... (EarnIt)
C5'ers wave back at me... with a squinting "do I know that guy" look. When my wife drives the Shark, everybody waves at her... and I don't mean just other Vettes! :D :seeya
Those C5 guys never wave at me :boxing . I only had one wave from a C5 guy. It was on the highway while I was going to school and we waved at each other from opposite sides of the highway. That was pretty cool. But, I'm always waving and nothing but the C3's and back wave me. :seeya
There are TONS of C5's around here. I get a wave every few days or so, especially from the C3's. There aren't that many C3's here, but whenever I see one I'm sure to give the wave as I'm checking out their car. I noticed alot of chicks in C5's wave me around here. That's not a bad thing. :seeya :D Some C5'ers are just stuck up. I wave them anyhow. :yesnod:

Re: C5's Dont Wave .... (The Wanderer)
I thought at first that they just didn't want to acknowledge an older Vette, that in their mind didn't measure up to their car. But, after seeing & waving to many C5 since Friday in my 02 Z06, and getting no response ... I've come to the conclusion that most, if not all, have no clue of the heritage of the wave.
That is absolutely it. Many C5'ers (no one who would visit this site, so no disrespect intended) buy a new Vette because it is an expensive sports car (ego thing), not because they respect it's rich history, etc. As time goes on, and newer generations are introduced, more and more C5'ers will wave. :seeya
Believe it or not, I've had quite a few C5s wave to me lately, but had a few this past weekend that did'nt. That's OK though, when I see they are not going to wave, I just retract four fingers and leave one extended. Guess which one
I had a guy in a ZO6 right next to me at a red light he snubbed me!
But today on the way home a WOMAN in a C5 waved at me first going opposite directions....just depends on the driver IMO. -Travis
sometimes its not as simple as not waving back, sometimes its a matter of not realizing that someone is waving at you until its too late. me personally, I spend WAY too much time looking at the road to notice all the waves i'm probably not getting...
When I first bought my 73, people would wave at me. Had no clue why. But I would wave back, and I wave to vettes now all the time regardless of my ride. Just cause. I also wave at cops, I think they have a REALLY hard job and nobody appreciates them. Since I am a young guy, how did the wave start?

I think I read someplace that the wave originally started when the early MG drivers would wave to each other. When the Vette came out and many MG drivers bought Vettes ... they continued waving to each other. Thus the tradition began.
Of course Harley wave to each other as do most bikers of any brand.
Many C5 owners are not enthusiasts or "car nuts". They view Corvettes as just a "cool car". They may be ignorant about the "wave". They would own a Boxster or a BMW as well as a C5.
I drive both a 2001 & 1966 Vette & :seeya :seeya :seeya, wave at everyone, including any hot rod or older muscle machine......tru many dont return the wave  its not exclusively the C5 .....but always get a wave back on the older Vettes.................... :chevy
I'm in the same boat (C3 and C5 owner). Rest assured there plenty of c5 owners that recognize the wave. My C5 is my driver (when the C3 is down for maint/projects) and I get more waves back than not.
Sunday I went for a cruise....got waves from a C5; a Jaguar (that's Jag-Wire...or do you say Jag-u-ar); and early 70's Nova; an even older Impala; and two little kids standing on a corner.
Pulled up to a stop light across from a C3 (a fellow red one at that) and the guy looked at me like I was crazy.
I get more waves from C3's and C4's. I think the guy's in the C5's are looking in their rear view mirrors affraid someone is gonna hit them in the rear. Or maybe they are looking at their self in the mirror. Not sure but I wave at them anyhow.

I think the MG drivers were doing it because they needed someone to help them put more oil in their cars on the side of the road........ (no offense to British car drivers, they just like to leak and burn oil)
Early Jag drivers, Porschephiles, and even Jeeps do the wave too. I remember when the Wrangler first came out with the rectangular headlights and guys with CJs wouldn't wave at them because they didn't think they were "real Jeeps" or "real Jeep people". I suppose we could do that with C5ers, but there is a good portion of them who are real Corvette enthusiasts and deserve a :seeya
I was sitting a a stop light behind a C5 yesterday and when we got going I passed her and waved and she didn't even look in my direction. She passed me later on and still nothing. Must of been that time of the month. :reddevil Here lately every Vette I have seen has waved (of course I wave first) but overall its been a good wave month...so far...execpt for yesterday.
