Default 1971 heater/ ac actuator problem

I have a footwell / defrost selection problem when the fan is on high the actuator does not move from the footwell to the defrost position until I reduce the fan speed, I guess the actuator is weak ( 2 port actuator like a mini headlamp actuator). Vacuum is good headlights up in 1-2 sec wiper door same and the other ac/ heater controls very quick. My question is can I get to the actuator without fully stripping the dash (I have just restored everything) and where is it located.

Although it's tight in there, yes, you can access the heater control head by removing the shifter plate from the top of the tranny tunnel.

Hi gw,
I think 7T1 thought you needed access to the controller but I believe you're asking about the 'pot'.
I believe (?) you'll need to remove the passenger's side lower dash pad to have access. Not too big a job compared to the center and driver's side.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Hi Graham,
I'm not sure just where it is since I'm not familiar with a/c cars. Do you have the a/c section of the AIM? That should tell you just where it is.
Here's the locations for the pots on my non a/c 71. You can see the one is easy to reach from the passengers side but not the other. I can't remember which is hot/cold and high/low.
I hope you have some Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I think its the left hand one, so from your photo it looks like removing the centre inst panel as well, poking around with a torch I can glimpse what apears to be a actuator mounted vertically I hope the linkage joins outside the heater box!
