My 4spd C3 never came with this cable. So I ordered the cable and installed it. Shifting into reverse is very tough and I am able to shift into 1-4. However going back into Reverse it seems I can't get "fully" into reverse and still can't remove the key from the ignition. I have to manually go under the hood and pull up on the interlock connection at the column.
Any ideas on adjustment? Is the interlock connection at the steering clumn supposed to be free moving or have a spring tension to be at either up/down position?
Other than a theft deterant why did you put a new one in? Just asking. I thought about getting one (mine was missing when I bought my car) but after further review I decided it's just not worth any problems it may cause.
Since I've never had my hands on one not sure how it would be adjusted. How far do you have to push it to make it work? If not far then maybe one of the brackets are bent or out of place. Do you have an AIM? I think the installation is in that.
Hi Kevin,
The only thing I can suggest is to disconnect the cable at the column lever and note just how far you need to move the lever to get the lock function to work.
Then with the cable still disconnected move the shifter to see how far it moves the cable.
Then connect the cable and move the shifter to see if it seems to move the column lever far enough, or is some motion lost. If the resistance within the cable isn't letting it slide freely maybe some lubrication will help?
Maybe?

Alan
Hi Mel,
Thanks.
I hadn't thought of that. If the steering column has been 'dropped' to work on the dash the bracket certainly could have been moved a little.

The 4 speed one is about 31" long. The auto one is quite a bit shorter (22") and I don't think is even long enough to reach the linkage on a 4 speed. Still, it's easy enough to check the length, and be sure, before you go to a lot of trouble trying to adjust it.
