Default 7 year old calipers, what too do???

My brakes need some bleeding and the screws are all broke. So, do I take each one and drill or just buy new? I have no leaks or signs of damage.

What 'screws' are you talking about? The main attachment screws? The bleeder screws?

Those are all replaceable, once you get the present ones removed. If you plan on replacing them, use a big-a$$ set of vise-grips or other methods to break the screws loose, then just toss them.

To "fix" them, you still have to remove them. As a last resort, you could always use a die-grinder with a cut-off wheel to whack the heads off. That may damage the calipers, too; but those likely need to be replaced also.

Once you get the bleeder screws out, replace them with stainless ones and you shouldn't have this problem again.

I've heard of people loosing their core deposit for chewing up the bleeders any truth to that if I can't get them out?

i have taken in calibers with broken bleeder screws and showed the counter people and they said they would still take it in as a core .i like advance for the calibers.they stock them but if they are out they can have you one the next day no shipping charges.

If you don't damage the caliper bodies they are good cores.

I just don't want to eat a core charge if I chew up the threads on the bleeder screw holes...

You won't. Advanced takes back almost any condition cores and asks no questions. I bought 4 calipers from them, painted them up, installed, and they are perfect! and $42 each. it's a no-brainer.

MIne were a disaster also, collasped line to left front, pads burnt out, leaky calipers. NAPA replacements $90 each, I did all new all around.
I like the painting them idea. Possible winter garage project in the future.
My question is the type of rotors on my '78 have the bearing in them etc? Hard to find locally. I went ahead and just turned all 4 since they are 41K miles, yet were scratched.
Good luck on the project!
