I got a new carpet kit for my 1980 from my wonderful wife. I've searched for some good instructions on how to perform the replacement, but can only find either very general instructions or very specific details. Does anyone have or know of a good step by step instructions document? I'm looking for good stuff with solid tips and techniques.
Thanks in advance!
Kim
Check out the link, it talks about a 74 but I think the process is still the same. When I did mine I placed the carpet in it correct place and let it set for a day before installing to remove the creases from the shipping carton. http://www.corvettemagazine.com/inte...-stingray.html
Hi Kim,
I wish I had nice step by step instructions but I'm sorry I don't.
The one bit I advice I'd offer is to be VERY,VERY, cautious about cutting anything until you're sure. Even then, I cut a little bit at a time, and keep putting the piece back in position to check, before cutting more.
Once it's cut too short, it's always too short.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Here's a link to my interior replacement. it's for a 75 but for the most part will be similar to yours. Also get the AIM which will help you as well, especially for putting it back together. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...-75-coupe.html
75+78 corvettes,
great write up. it will help me a lot.
Question...
should the cargo lamp come on when the doors open?
mine doesn't. so I ran an extra ground wire back to the headlight switch ground wire for the under dash courtesy lights and now it comes on with the doors open.
thanks,
david
Mine still had the factory well-worn carpet in it so I have questions of those more experienced than me. The original was not glued anywhere. All loose on the floor along with the thick tar board backing. The is a clear plastic covered paper type insulation on the wheel wells. Do I need to glue the new carpet anyway? Do I leave the existing insulation? Another thing I noticed is that the rear bulkhead carpet has a hard plastic lip that goes over the metal strip that holds the cargo cover. Not sure if the new one has that. How do I fix it? Also, do I leave the speaker brackets in place and trim around them or does the carpet go under them? Bubba had brutally removed the originals and I'm trying to put them back in. Thanks to everyone for your help!
