Default Carpet installation instructions

I got a new carpet kit for my 1980 from my wonderful wife. I've searched for some good instructions on how to perform the replacement, but can only find either very general instructions or very specific details. Does anyone have or know of a good step by step instructions document? I'm looking for good stuff with solid tips and techniques.
Thanks in advance!
Kim

lay the old inside the new and trim off the excess.

I used an ice pick to relocate seat and seat belt holes.

I simply cut small square holes when and where the holes were found.

Since the new carpet will be a little longer than the old trim to fit.

Take your time and keep the new carpet as long as possible.

Check out the link, it talks about a 74 but I think the process is still the same. When I did mine I placed the carpet in it correct place and let it set for a day before installing to remove the creases from the shipping carton.

here is another link, this one deals with 68 to 79:

link for 78 to 82

these should help you

Also you need a large torque ,I think size45 or 50? For the seat belt bolts.

Hi Kim,
I wish I had nice step by step instructions but I'm sorry I don't.
The one bit I advice I'd offer is to be VERY,VERY, cautious about cutting anything until you're sure. Even then, I cut a little bit at a time, and keep putting the piece back in position to check, before cutting more.
Once it's cut too short, it's always too short.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Here's a link to my interior replacement. it's for a 75 but for the most part will be similar to yours. Also get the AIM which will help you as well, especially for putting it back together.

The AIM is helpful, but is not a How To. It shows the clips in the rear compartment, has notes where adhesive was used and where it wasn't, etc.

Use your existing carpet as a template for trimming and hole placement.

75+78 corvettes,
great write up. it will help me a lot.
Question...
should the cargo lamp come on when the doors open?
mine doesn't. so I ran an extra ground wire back to the headlight switch ground wire for the under dash courtesy lights and now it comes on with the doors open.
thanks,
david

Mine still had the factory well-worn carpet in it so I have questions of those more experienced than me. The original was not glued anywhere. All loose on the floor along with the thick tar board backing. The is a clear plastic covered paper type insulation on the wheel wells. Do I need to glue the new carpet anyway? Do I leave the existing insulation? Another thing I noticed is that the rear bulkhead carpet has a hard plastic lip that goes over the metal strip that holds the cargo cover. Not sure if the new one has that. How do I fix it? Also, do I leave the speaker brackets in place and trim around them or does the carpet go under them? Bubba had brutally removed the originals and I'm trying to put them back in. Thanks to everyone for your help!
