The hood release and latch on my 73 convertible has always worked great until now. When pulling the release handle it is only unlatching on the left side. The cable and handle feel normal but the hood is not releasing on the right side. The car has nice paint and I'm a little concerned about gaining access to fix this problem. Anyone else ever have this problem or have ideas on getting the hood to open. I appreciate your input.
Yep...same thing happened on my 81.
I followed another forum members advise to resolve the problem.
"gently" lift up the left side of the hood that already released...and wiggle your hand underneath to feel for the release cable....then pull it.
If the cable is not broken, it should POP right up,.
My hand was a very tight fit but I was able to reach under there and finally feel the cable....pulling it ...then "POP"
Be careful not to pull up on the hood too hard because you will crack your paint.
Then on mine....on the drivers side of the release cable you will see on the tab that connects the cable to the connector...there are adjustment holes that will allow you to pull your release cable a little tighter for the passenger side. I had to use the last hole on mine to tighten up that cable.....but before I closed my hood I lubricated the release mechanisms while I was under the hood. With the release cable adjusted tighter, and everything lubed up it seems to work fine now. I hope this helps. Let us know what you find.
Thanks SGAL1 I'll give that a try. It is going to be a struggle though to get my hand to the cable. The car has very nice paint and I don't want to crack it. I may just wait till spring as the car is basically in hibernation till warm weather returns. Thanks again.
