Default 76 Windshield Defroster

Hi we are starting to put interior back together for 76 and noticed a gap between the duct that sits right below the dash pad that directs air defroster air to the windshield and the duct that provides air from the bottom at it's base. The gap is about 3 inches. I'm trying to determine if the gap should be there or if we are missing a connector part? Any ideas? Thanks.

I'd say you are missing something.
Been too long since I had mine apart to tell you what though.

3" is alot. I don.t have a close up pic, but the gap on mine was about 1/2" max. I tried several ducts and they where all about the same. Not much moving around possible so closed it with alu tape ...

I thought mine was wider but it's is actually about a 1/2 in.m as well. I will tape it down with aluminium tape, too. I did crank the car and run the defroster and air does flow there even though that gap exists. Interesting! I'm assuming any hardware store should have the tape? Thanks.

1/2" Gap is normal.. hate to say it.. Dembo's solution is a great mod for a better defrost...

I read the owner's manual again and seems the gap was left there on purpose. The manual says (page 2-19 under "DEF") "If the control is positioned between "HTR" and "DEF", air flow is divided between floor and defroster outlets. Perhaps this is the route for floor heater air to travel? Who knows. I'll decide what to do in the am. Thanks.

Mine had a half inch gap. I used aluminum tape to seal it up. Now it works well....not that I will ever need it.
