Just to add to this thread, this is what I am using:

Mounted laying flat. JUST clears the hood when its open. I already had the AC condensor in front of the radiator so I didnt want to block it.

Air blows through from the bottom:

Over 8k miles on this setup and tons of racing...no problems at all... tranny fluid always looks and smells new.

Ya, I know your opinion, we all know your opinion, you've stated it twice like you do with anyone that has one that differs from yours

My reasoning was that I want the radiator to be dedicated to cooling the 700+ HP small block engine - I don't want the trans to add to that cooling requirement and I expect the engine will still run pretty hot so I don't want the trans cooling limited by the engine.

Now I see my logic is incomplete without mentioning the smoothing effect the efficiency of fluid to fluid heat exchange provides.

The trans is a 700r4 with (a stronger version of) 4L80e internals and a 10" 3200 stall TC.

I'll be running dual B&M 70268 11" X 7˝" Super Coolers in series with (2) 9" pusher Spal fans thermostatically switched at 185on/165off. mounted about 1˝" in front of the radiator.

żżWill this be enough to get the job done?? (I imagine the answer is "It depends") but I'd like to hear you guys weigh in.
ps. MrVette, you are a transmission common sense rockstar(complete with the rockstar hair)!
HAHAHAHA, that's my wife's granddaughter's wig from some school act/play, and she flops it on my head, and I demanded a pis taken where she surprised me with it....reality is I about bald as a eagle....

What EVER man, I not a racing use guy, but for fairly quick street driving here in FLORIDA and years ago in TEXAS....my concepts of tranny oil cooling have worked for ME...

having said that, in the motor home rebuild project, there is a pressure gauge plumbed in, and a temp gauge in the pan....but it's a 8000 lbs GVW on a 700 r4 350 ci engine....

a considerable different load factor than a silly vette at less than 1/2 the vehicle weight, don't forget the square law of physics....

You don't need to run the cooler in conjunction with the radiator !! I have run external coolers alone for years with zero problems on 3 other cars. #1 enemy of transmissions is heat!

Stay on topic gentlemen and end the bs posts, or I see vacations from the forum in the offending poster's future.
