Default Radiator removal

For some reason my shop manual does not mention pulling the radiator. Or at least I don't see it.... Anyway I can't seem to get the rad shroud off without pulling the radiator with it. That's fine I just have a question or two.

When I unhook the transmission cooling lines will the trans fluid drain out on the floor ? Should i drain the trans first ? How many bolts are supposed to hold it in ? I only see 4 ? After the two coolant hoses, the two trans lines are unhooked, and the 4 bolts pulled will it just lift out ? Or am I missing something else ?

Orange tells me its an early C3. I'm wrapping up a radiator pull and installation on a 78 that included replacing coolant lines. I left the shroud in place to pull the radiator. There's been a couple of threads regarding pulling hood vs leaving it in place. I did mine by self with hood but can see how it would be much easier with a 2nd pair of hands. But the rad has to be pulled first before the shroud can be removed.

Cooling lines...you'll lose some but only what's in the lines. It won't drain from the tranny. Not sure what you're referring to as "the 4 bolts". Are you dropping the transmission? The tranny lines have two flare nuts that connect to the tranny. One connection under the a-arm that secures lines to the chassis and than the two flare nut with short lines that exit the radiator.

by the 4 bolts i think you're talking about the bolts that you can see from inside the fender well. there should be six and they only hold the rad support to the car. the only bolts that need to be removed are the 4 bolts on the top that hold the 2 brackets over the radiator. while you're at it i'd throughly check the rad support for rust- seems to be a common issue

Remove the fan first, then the shroud will come right out.

Boys:
As an experienced radiator bubba, I can tell you:
Remove the hood!

I destroyed my 76 early shroud by cutting corners. A 1976 early shroud is worth half the car!!

Now I have electric fans (which I love).
