Did 68's have a hood liner in the SM hood? If not, would 69 hood liner fit? Reason is I was thinking of having Paula put a custom C3 flag on one. Thoughts?
Hi aw,
I don't believe 68 cars had the hood liner/insulation. The liner/insulation appeared sporadically on mainly big block cars in 69.
I guess the only issue for you would be attaching it to the hood.
Regards,
Alan
68 Didn't use the insulation, and 69 Big block did but it was really a small insulation that only did the front section of the hood.
69 Hood Insulation:
The 73-75 style had a hole cut in the middle of it.. so not sure that would work either.
We used to be able to purchase the insulation in a flat sheet, I'm not sure if we still have that or not. But the replacement version of the 1976-1979 insulation is flat and would probably be your best bet for a good looking insulation.

According to 68-69 Stingray Guidebook:
The first blanket we found in the literature (McKoy, 1978) was a 2 pin blanket on a ZL2 hood from a 1968 L88...the small piece of fiberglass was held on the hood by 2 pins with large flat retaining washers.
Blankets were used on different model/option combinations such as BB engine, A/C or slushbox trans to try to remedy cooling problems.
Inadequate cooling in 1968 big blocks was corrected with several engineering changes. The 1969 modifications included an air dam, openings cut into the front valence panels, a plastic fan shroud, increased fan pulley speed, and a fan clutch with a higher slip speed.
No mention of a hood blanket being one of the modifications to non-racing intended cars.

If 'SM' means the base hood or small block hood, then no.
Thanks for the info guys. I was wondering,,,,,,what if I sent her my hood and she painted that. It's a better "canvas" than any liner. Then I don't damage the hood in case I want originality some day, I just paint over it. And I don't have to worry about clearance issues. But I guess the hood could be damaged in shipping. Should have had it done BEFORE I painted the hood. Can anyone see any issues I am not thinking of?
