I need the correct Delco model number for the a/c compressor in a 1982 CE. The one in my car today is a 1131198 (toast). As I look for a reman I want to make sure I get the correct one for the car.
1131198 is the same model number on my 82 CE. The only other element of interest on my AC label is one called Code # which is 112711. Although I'm not sure what it means.
I bought a N.O.S. R4 on e bay for about $125 last year for my 82 CE. There were a lot of cars that used that compressor. I drained the old oil and refilled with R134 compatible oil before the install. While it was apart I replaced the a/c pressure switch, drier, accumulator, lineset, and ALL O rings. Also VERY important, flush the rest of the system and add oil for any of the replaced components.
A/C works flawlessly now. My total out of pocket was about $300.00
If your compressor threw 'craps', you will want to flush the refrigerant lines out completely to get any debris out of them. Then they will have to be purged of any [and all] fluid and vacuum ALL air out of them before refilling with refrigerant. You really should have a professional A/C mechanic do this work, if you want it to be right and last.
