Default 72 Electrical questions

Hey guys, need some info or pics of unmolested wiring of the washer wiring on a 72. The wipers work fine but the washer dosn't. There is a blue wire with a spade terminal on the l/h side of the pump and the r/h terminal has had the wire pulled out, but there is no wire without a terminal. The wiring diagram shows a yellow wire that goes on here and there is one in the harness but it has a bullet terminal on it that looks original. Not sure why the terminals would be different or if I should just change the end and hook it up. Also not sure which wire goes to which side, have found 2 different hookups on the net. Blue wire has .2V, yellow has 10.5V (battery low).
Also, the main wire from the harness that goes to the wiper limit switch (red/ white stripe) has been cut on the harness end and a small black wire that emerges from the same point as the wires for the wiper/washer, has been joined to the red/white wire before it gets to the limit switch.Voltage at the cut off wire is the same as voltage were the red/white wire plugs in to the wiper motor, 1V. I thought this wire should have 12V. No idea why the wire was cut off or were the black wire should go.
There is also a red wire that emerges from the same location that has a black plastic plug with a female spade terminal that is not connected to any thing. It has full voltage with the ignition on. Could this be for an electric choke?
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
Cheers, Doug

Hi Doug,
I'll start.
I believe the blue wire should have a bullet terminal like the yellow wire. The blue wire is the ground wire running to the pump from the washer part of the wiper switch on the dash.
They plug into the front connector of the washer pump, there's an opening in the pump's black plastic cover... blue from the right side and yellow from the left.
This info is based on my 71, I THINK 72 is the same.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

You can see the blue and yellow wires in this picture.

The original terminals on your car were of the bullet type for the washer pump. The blue wire is the ground, the yellow power. When the wiper switch is depressed to wash the grounding circuit is completed on the pump and away it goes.

The replacement washer pumps will come with spade terminal connections, the Original reproductions will have the bullet terminal.

Alan should have you straight... and here is a simplified wire schematic.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.
Allan, I was pretty sure about the yellow and blue wires but its easier to check first. If I beg a little, is there any chance you could have a look and see were the small black wire is hooked up to. It comes out of the harness in the same location as the wires that plug into the wiper. Could you also please tell me what color the wire is that runs to the electric choke, if your car has one. Not in any hurry, whenever you have a spare minute.
Thanks

Mr. Willcox,
Thanks for the diagram. I had a look at it on the web site before I posted on here. Way easier than the GM diagram. With the red/white wire, I'm only getting about 1 Volt and it should be 12 V. I thought this would affect the wiper operation but they seem to be working fine. What exactly does this wire supply, and should the wipers work with the low power supply?

Thanks again guys. Sorry for all the questions but there's not any cars close that I can look at.
Doug
