Default Electronic ignition or no?

My mechanic is suggesting that I remove the distributor/points and put an electronic ignition in. I have a 327 with MSD 6al, distributor, MSD points and accel plug wires at the moment. I bought the car as a project car so the items have less than 1 mile on them as its a freshly built engine.

Should I install electronic ignition or keep the existing setup that came with the car?

Could you point me in the right direction for what kit to get? Been browsing through summit and Jegs and there's lots of kits out there to choose from.

Thanks

I haven't run points in any car for years, but since you've already invested in an MSD 6AL box, could be a money decision at this point. If you were totally stock, I'd say put a Pertronics module in the dizzy, and call it a day. Not sure if it's compatible with you 6AL though. The points in your set up, are seeing much less currrent than stock, and should last a long time. I'm running a MSD 6AL box with HEI dizzy in a car, and all is well though.

No "kit" really needed. Get a $50 HEI distributor and rock it.

Not saying buy that one, maybe better seller/price? Just an example on how you can get a new cheap HEI distributor and get rid of the points.

You already have an electronic ignition system; you are just using the points to 'time' the spark distribution. If your 'mechanic' needs to get rid of the points, maybe he isn't much of a 'mechanic' after all.

I put an electronic ignition module in my old time distrbutor. Still looks semi stock and fits by the air cleaner. HEI is tight. I put in a high output coil and painted it black and the rev limiter spark control is under the cap. Neat and tidy. Works great. No more adjusting points.
