Is it hard to replace?
should I jut have it rebuilt or replace the whole tranny with a high perf one?
I dont want to put a lot of money in it but I dont want to throw any more away either.
I was thinking of putting a 2000 rpm stall converter while Im at it.
What color is the fluid? Does it smell burnt? If pink and no are the answers, replace it. Someone who knows 350s can help you shifting and pressure at the valve body. Without taking the entire tranny apart. If it's slipping or the fluid is burnt, personally, I'd rebuild it with high performance parts and the alterations to strengthen it some. Otherwise change the seals at both ends and drive it.
How many miles are on the trans? Other than the leak, is it working okay? A seal is about $10.00. You can pull and replace the trans in an afternoon. Adding a 2000 stall converter to a lock up TH350 in an otherwise stock car is a waste of time, effort and money IMHO. Plus unless it's a lock up converter, you'll loose that capability.
If the fluid is good and there are no other issues, I would use a bottle of Lucas Trans-Fix before pulling the trans just to replace a seal. I have used the Lucas products many times before and they work well. It is worth the $10 if it saves you a whole lot of labor!
I actually am not sure if someone hasnt put a shift kit, its firm but no bark.
I have a bigger Comp Cam in it that calls for gears and stall, I think I have the gears 3K@70 MPH.
I dont really want to be doing burn outs or race it but once in a while I cant resist.
the car has 127K on it.
