Default REV-Limiters

What do you guys use as REV-Limiters??
I was thinking about getting Autometer PRO-Control but it seems that noone here has experience with it.

I use the MSD 6AL ignition with it's built in rev limiter. I like MSD ignitions and have a total of 4 different ones in my car.

I read somewhere that the MSD 6AL can melt the HEI cap if used with GM HEI Ignition.... I also was considering the CRANE HI-6 Ignition but I don't know if HI-6 works with GM HEI with internal coil...

I don't know about that. I have a Mallory unilite distributor and have run it with the MSD for more then 10 years without problems.

wow...haven't heard that one yet....but I run a msd HEI distrib and a Blaster High Vibration Coil with the ability to mount at any angle. you can see it on my firewall in the picture. My msd is above the front passenger tire and like Norval I use it to manage the REV limits...MSD6al

MSD 6AL, here and I just bought a two step rev controll so when those ricers rev their engines at me at the stop lights I can powerbrake it at the low rev limiter and scare the Bejebus out of them

Seriously the two step should be great at the track :D:D

I have an MSD rev limiter box. It uses the same pills as the 6AL, but it is only a rev limiter. I have not hooked it up yet, but will be doing so over hte Memorial Day weekend. The P/N is 8728.

Well - your coil is external - so you won't have a problem. The problem seems to
only with the internal coil. I just found following statement about the MSD 6AL with
stock HEI on the SUMMITRACING website:

(Quote)
The resistance in the stock cap is too high and may cause the cap to melt.

I use the MSD distributor and 6AL with a 7K chip. It works so much more smoothly than the limiter on my ZO6 that shuts off the gas when you hit it.

I use a Crane HI6 in mine. Works very well. Has been used many times. It says it works with the HEI ignition.

Well - there are different type of HEI's. (external and internal coil).
I use a aftermarket HEI with 50000 Volt internal coil...

Olivier

P.S. It's very likely that I will go with the HI-6 Ignition myself

Mine is a aftermarket system too. However - it's the same design as the stock HEI.

Crane HI6R it's the only real choice other than MSD digitals. Mine is mounted infront of the passenger wiper.

Do you use a internal or external coil?

Summit sells a lower resistance cap which will not melt for sure, if you are in doubt. I have that with my 6AL and haven't had any problems. It is listed as optional accessories for the msd box at the summit web site.

I have a PROFORM 50000 Volt HEI Ignition. I don't know about the resistance of the
cap used for this ignition. I might change it if necessary...

mallory unilite - MSD Blaster II coil - Balast Resistor - Taylor 10.4 mm pro spiral wires - Some kind of Platinium plugs. Right now Crane is giving a super coil with every ignition. I bought mine to early to get the coil deal.

The Crane wiring is great. I can pop the hood and unplug two connectors and eliminate the box if something should go wrong with it. My old MSD 6AL left me stranded
