just about have my new tru-fit toledo pro rear bumper ready for the painter he said that he would have to use flex-additive in the paint i told him with the tru fit you didn't need it so he wants to know for sure also whats to know the best primer for this bumper. Any help would be appreciated.
No flex agent needed. The primer used should be compatable with the top coat you're using. Make sure you use polyester resin if you have to do any glassing on it.
Dont know much about the bumpers you're using, but if they're soft, flex additive's a good idea. Reason I'm asking, is friend of mine with a 79's looking to do bumpers, and know many of the aftermarket jobs, require fitting work. Curious how your Toledo pro's fit out of the box. Also, if the shop's looking to gouge you on the flexitive, not very expensive stuff, as really just thinned out rubber contact cement.
I hope the OP doesn't mind me jumping in and answering as well! The Trueflex bumpers are not what you would call soft compared to urethane. and one of the advantages of them over urethane is no flex agent needed. Fit varies from car to car, but from the research I've done, the fit of the rears is better than the fronts. How they look when you're done depends on how much time and effort you're prepared to put in to them. I had to build up the drivers side front corner up half an inch to get the gap right. Rear was much easier, but still quite a bit of work. My car had to be painted, so it was no big deal, but for someone replacing them on a driver......!
