Have some leaky seals either in the pillar area, or in the t tops.
Was wondering if anyone knew any tech articles on replacing these - or which kit was best for a coupe. I have seen some on ebay for cheaper than Ecklers and the like... but I don't want to cut a corner if it has the obvious potential to hurt in the long run.
Hi Tyler,
I read good reports here about the weatherstrips made by Corvette Rubber Company in Cadillac, Michigan. Also known as CRC.
Various vendors sell them, so ask who's made what you're buying to know whether you've gotten a competitive price.
There have been some weatherstrip installation threads in the last year or two. Have you done a search?
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
The only weatherstrip I sell and install for c3 cars is CRC brand.
You really have to watch the ebay weatherstrip kits.. most are imported.
The most common issue I've seen with the imported rubbers are the ends on the coupe door mains, they are usually wrong. Another issue is the pillar is an extruded part (and hollow in the middle) with ends bonded on. The original part was a molded part from top to bottom.
The end section issue with the imported rubber is so common we actually changed our pictures to let people know the difference.

It's a fairly easy, but slightly messy job.
Cover the interior, remove the old weatherstripping and clean what's left with "3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner",
Then test fit the new weatherstripping by taping it in place.
Then apply "3M Weatherstrip Adhesive".

The 3M cleaner is a must...
And get the pillar weatherstrip clips... you'll need to replace them! More than likely, the coating is gone off of them.
On a C3, don't waste money on the weatherstrip tool kit either... you can spend it on something else!
Trial fit and understand what you are doing. Many people get intimidated with this process and can end up with 6" more material by stretching and blame it on the manufacture.
There are "check points" with the secure 'pins and screws'. Use a marker and/or masking tape to document the interface point. Take your time, installation of most Corvette parts are at your pace, not someone elses.
Read, understand, test and apply - satisfactory results will be obtained.
