Default Replace Oil Pressure Sending Unit

OK, I know I over think all this (simple) stuff and internet searches just adds to it sometimes.

First off, price: MAM $64.99, Ecklers $39.99, Auto Zone $17.99. I'm not after a correct restoration so any reason why the $17.99 would not work?

Any trick or tips on replacing the oil pressure sending unit (switch) on a 77?

Saw on some post the need for a "special" socket, but it just looks like an open end wrench would work...am I missing something?

Also, anything on the threads or just screw in dry?

Appreciate it....

As long as the resistance and scale are correct in the new sender it makes no difference if it's $10 or $100.

I've seen new ones with a hard red or blue sealer applied come right out of the box. What you want it to ensure a good ground between the sender and the block or the gauge will read funny.

Just thread it in. A little blue Loctite would not hurt. NAPA is fine.

There's an oil LIGHT sending unit(not on Corvettes) that requires a special socket.
The bell shaped sending unit requires nothing special, toolwise.
Like Tim said, good ground is important. If no sealer on the new threads, ONE wrap of teflon tape is plenty.

doesn't look like there is a ground wire on the unit - - 1 wire with a blade connector plugging into the sensor....

It's grounded to the block through the threads.

That's why you don't want to put teflon tape on those threads...teflon is an insulator.

Go with the 17.00 Napa sender. Works just fine.

O man I love the C5....obviously more of everything compared to the C3...

But I do like the C3 body lines.......

Haven't had the C3 on the road in 15 yrs....back when I bought the C5 it was either restore the C3 or buy the C5, so instant gratification led me to the C5.

Just starting back on the C3 now, but more of get it back on the road project ($) Vs a restoration($$$$)...
