Default E-brake...what E-brake?

Removed my trailing arms and found this. Or maybe it's what I didn't find. I always wondered why my emergency brake didn't work. Wow, somebody actually thought that wasn't needed. Got a little sick to my stomach when I saw that. Anybody else see anything like this?

That whole assy is obviously toast, no way to trust any parts I see there, I assume both sides are the same, so to check the frame where those t-arms came out of, hopefully it and the rest of the car are nowhere nearly as badly rusted....

as for the ebrake, they never work worth a flip anyway, but if you rebuild them use the stainless HARDWARE, but IRON SHOES,.....

The frame looks really good compared to those arms. The pockets look good too. It all started with the differential leak. Then the halfshafts have to come out so might as well refresh, paint and install new ujoints. Might as well rebuild the diff since its out. Oh yeah strut rods, shocks, new arms...and refresh and paint. So far it hasn't been too difficult. I think the worst part was getting all the old dirty rusted crap out and cleaning.

Sounds like me, near 17 years ago, got the entire rear area replaced at a vette shop, club guru, because he had all the special tools for the bearings, and gave me good prices on USA made parts, and so it's fine, knock on wood....the while you at it's set in, I recommend a plastic rear spring, if you not have one already....the ride is SO much better

It's an 81 so it has it. I think that's the only part that's not getting replaced!

MR VETTE, why are the stainless steel parking brake shoes not a good idea?

It's not rare to discover that a previous owner tossed the entire e-brake assembly rather than fix it. I see some light to moderate surface rust, but nothing scary.
