We took everything off the windshield frame to weld in new corners, and patch some small holes. In the channel, along the top of the frame (under the T-top header trim) was a thick, black, tar like sealer. Can anybody tell me what, or where to find something to put back in there when we re-assemble it?
3m has a string like product comes in black. You will find it at any body and paint supplier. We use to use it on the assembly line back in the day. We use to call it dum dum go figure
If you had holes in the top of the birdcage, carefully inspect the area below the base of the windshield area, under the FG 'wings'. There is often perforation rust there too and it is hard to see and hard to fix since access is almost impossible w/o removing the FG.
Thanks for the info! We did find some more holes down below, but only on the driver side, and some in the driver door bottom as well.
(And here I thought we were done with the welder!)
Thanks! We`ll look for it. Today we got more of those holes exposed and got the grinder in there so we can get some new metal welded in next time we play!
