It's called a compartment door lock, if I understand what you're referring to. Check the ZIP catalog on the CF homepage for the lockset.

I'm assuming a lot here, KW, in that the assembly you're referring to is the rear compartment doors that are in your interior behind the seats. The only other thing that I could guess at what your referring to is the spare tire carrier. Either way, you would get the lock assembly and have to get the tumbler re-keyed. Haven't used mine in a while but I recollect that the key for the rear (interior) compartment is the doorlock key. I think the spare tire lock uses the ignition key. Of course, I could have that completely backward. Otherwise, you're going to have to live with an extra key for whatever it is you're trying to address.

Possibly you speak of the factory alarm system switch??
Where exactly is the keyhole in question located?

Agree, if you are talking about the key in the rear panel between the tail lights.

There was an optional alarm system installed on 8,501 '71's, according to the black book. You turned the alarm on or off with a key, I believe it was keyed to match the door. In later years the key switch was moved to the left front fender, and eventually the switch was integrated into the door lock itself, as it is in my '81.

Good luck! :seeya

...and it is wired into the plunger switches on the doors and one at the rear of the hood. When the alarm is activated, if a door or hood is opened it will sound the alarm horn (located behind the drivers side rear wheel well up above the muffler area). Horn will sound until it is turned off with the key or until the battery runs down (later 70's versions had a timer to shut off horn). The relays are located in the rear storage compartments.
