Crower solid cam update
[/IMG]COOLFACE SOLID LIFTERS
Engine builders know that cam lobe and lifter
wear is caused by inadequate oil lubrication
at the cam and lifter surface.
With today’s high rpm, high rocker ratio
and high spring pressures, cam and lifter
failure is at an all time high. Crower’s all new
“CoolFace” lifter option is a must for these
applications. Features a small diameter
oil metering port (.024") that is precision
machined in the face of the lifter. No
significant oil pressure loss, but significantly
improved cam and lifter longevity.
Happy to report all is well and I'm very pleased with this combo.Lash settings have not changed since the initial break in.Motor is quick revving and very responsive.I was looking into a retro-roller setup but seemed to me to much hassle with cam play, correct cam gear and the link bar lifters failing. The cost was also a factor.Figured those cool face lifters would put more oil on the cam lobes to help avoid a flat lobe.I'm using VR1 oil which states it has ZDDP added right on the label. So far so good close to 1k miles on the new cam.....The Valvoline VR-1 Racing Motor Oil
• The #1 selling Racing Oil of all time and race track proven.
• Protects against high-temperature deposits for a cleaner engine.
• ZDDP additive provides tough anti-wear protection.
• Enhanced with friction modifier to improve horsepower.
• Formulated with enhanced anti-foam system.

What really saves solids is the newer breads of small lash cams. I run my SR at .010/.012
Vette is my weekend cruzer so not much miles driven.Moved from Oahu to Kona back in 81.North shore is still country not much changes on that side of the island.Honolulu is just plain crazy these days traffic everywhere all the time.Who has those close lash cams?..Aloha's
The film strength is something else!!
Takes forever to wash it off your hands moreseo than any synthetic Ive used.
Good news on the cool face lifters.
HAve a 400 in the garage that, if I have too many issues with the .026 lash solid roller in my stroker Ill just build a basic 406 with a flat tappet.
That said, racing oils aren't the best choice for street use as the additive package is not designed for extended change intervals or start-and-stop cycles. But if that's what you can get, then it's far better than a no-name oil and a no-name additive.

Let's not turn this into an oil thread

I'm using up surplus Mobil 1 for the Z28 but I add ZDDP to it.
