Default Exhaust Soot ??

Everytime I start the car, I get two nice black sooty stains on the concrete right below the exhaust. I did alot of upgrades to the car at once.

Didn't notice the soot until the upgrades. BTW... It is worse than the picture shows!!

Headers
Dual exhaust no cats
Vortec Heads
Performer RPM Intake
Carb

Any ideas??

Mixture is too rich, choke is stuck on.

Pull, mark, and read the color of your plugs. Brown / Tan is perfect. Black is rich and white is lean. I'm with Mike in suspecting your mixture.

Need to adjust choke plate at start-up. Probably closed too far (not enough airflow...too rich).

When you set the choke by putting the pedal to the floor you introduce a squirt of fuel into the engine. Of course it will be rich at start-up. Seems normal to me unless the black persists for some time.

Thanks All !

I adjusted the choke to be partially open cold, and NO Black Soot!

Now I just have to lower my high idle, which is kinda painful on the 3310.

Thanks !!

Yeah, man, all ya have to do is turn one screw, it's easier than falling in love!

Do you have an electric choke on the 3310? They are pretty nice, set it and forget it.

You guys are killing me

High idle screw for the auto choke... Tough to get to, unless you're a Ninja.
