Default AN Fitting Experts, please help!!

Looking for the correct fitting (if there is one) to convert this pictured pipe to AN... When I throw the tape measure on it, looks like it is a 5/8s pipe... Is there an AN fitting or adapter to fit this???

Thanks much

Well, 5/8" would be -10AN, and I don't know of any fitting that directly connects to that. You might be able to slip -10 hose directly over it and use a band clamp, I've done it before for low pressure lines. If there is enough room, you could cut the bead off the end and use a tube nut and sleeve and flare it, then you would have a female AN fitting to connect to.

Or, again if you have enough room, cut the bead off and just use an AN to tube adapter fitting:

Assuming you are correct that it is a 5/8" line.

Yep, I agree - I don't think you can get a cutter/flare tool in there, though

I'd tend to think the right solution is to drill/tap where the tube fits in, if that component is removeable.

That nipple looks press fit into the casting. Can you pull it and thread it for a male to male adapter?

What he said , Rog. That way you can fasten onto it with a 90 degree -10AN hose end and rotate the end of the hose easily to whatever position you need it to be in. If you can get that tube out of there I think it would be 1/2" NPT but not positive there.

BTW is that for power steering?

Yep, that's what I said as well - I think the challenge is chip control unless the component where the tube goes in is removeable - especially true if the hole needs to be drilled to an English size...

Thanks to all that replied... Yepper, this is for the GM Type II power steering pump in my March Revolver kit... Was hoping it would be easier than cutting the tube or threading the hole... Pretty sure this is a press in fitting... It's not that hard to take the pump off, but I don't have the expertise to thread the hole...

What's the going rate for a machine shop, probably $35-50 I would guess...

Probably more apt to get one of these and keep the short warranty with March gives with the components....

Was just "hoping" there was a fitting that would quickly meet my needs without any modifications...

Again, thanks much for the replies...

I pulled the nipple out of my LS Corvette pump. Not a big deal to do. Just takes a little work a good vise and some big pliers. ibought a very expensive tap and tapped the hole for a pipe fitting. The pipe tap cost more than the 50 dollar charge you are talking about but I get all that stuff for a huge discount so I don't worry baout the cost plus I now have the tool.

Thanks Gordon... If I was even a little proficient in this, I would probably give it a go... I'll wimp out and use a standard hose clamp...

Howe power steering has those pumps with fittings converted over.
They use a O ring fitting to go into the pump. Reason being is that if you run a pipe tap into the pump, there's a chance that there wont be enough material to keep the pump housing from cracking.
I'd see if Howe could mod your pump for you.
