The early emblem, 1969-1973 used four attaching studs that fit into holes on the fender. GM Part Number: 3945361
The later emblem, 1974-1976 used self adhesive backing to stick to the fender, no studs or holes in the fender. https://www.paragoncorvette.com/corv...3/#/145/zoomed

The 74-76 has 3 short pins on the backside, and the fender does get holes in it. The pins aren't used to attach the 74-76 emblem, only to properly position it on the fender.
'Early' script had the background black and the rest of the lettering left chrome; 'later' script painted the "sides" of the script letters black, also.

All 69-76 "Stingray" emblems had the raised area of the emblem (closest to the body) painted black, and the rest of the side of the emblem left chrome. It was only the later GM Service Replacement (over the counter) emblems, that had the whole side of the emblem painted black.
At some point in the 90's, GM figured out that it was cheaper and easier, just to paint the whole side of the emblem black.
Hi,
The original script on my 71 has the four pins AND the die-cut adhesive.
The pins show no sign of ever having had speed nuts on them.

Alan

I'm glad someone brought this up.
I thought there was a difference with the "i" but I wasn't sure.
Dennis, would you mind elaborating on this? I don't see the difference in any of these photos. I think it has something to do with a round dot or a square dot. Doesn't it???
Hi,
7T1 is right from what I understand.
The base of the script (the black part) continues from the stroke of the i, to the dot of the i, with out any cut in the black BASE on original script.
The service replacement had a shallow depression in the black BASE between the stroke of the i and the dot of the i.
I don't think it matters in any way EXECPT to tell which is which.
It appears to me that the reproduction script made by Trim Parts matches the original.
Regards,
Alan
Redid my just recently. striped them with acetone, scrapped the 40 years of road grim with an x-acto, more acetone, tooth picked some Testors flat black, then trimmed again with the x-acto. I think I got the right application for the 70.
