Default Trim ring clips

I need to replace a broken trim ring clip. I know I can buy the clip, but I can't figure out how to swap it out on my trim ring.

Hi B,
The 68-74 clips were spot welded to the inner band.
Starting in 75 the clip and band were changed; the clips had flanges that slipped into slots in the band.
What do you have?
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan, I've got a '76. It's not welded. It almost looks like you have to bend back the outer lip, but I don't want to touch it until I'm sure.

Hi B,
The pictures I have of the later clip design all show it in place.
I can't see for sure what needs to be done to replace the clip.
You're probably right, BUT, you do need to be very careful un-crimping the edge. The problem is to open the crimp far enough to slide the old clip out, and new one in, but still be able to close it back up without making a mark on the side of the ring that's seen when the ring is installed.
I'd give it a try, but would be VERY cautious.
Regards,
Alan

Alan, Good News! I got it out. Turns out that the trim ring is 2 pieces, so if you pry on the inner piece, it doesn't make a mark on the outside. I pried up a 2" section of the lip, so it was pointing straight up, then I put a screwdriver under the center section of the clip, twisted it, and the clip popped right out. The new clip should go in easy. No damage!
Thanks, Mark
