Brake lights dim at night?
Was looking for pointers on an issue with my brake lights on my 1974.
There is not a very noticeable difference between the running lights at night and when I hit the brake - looking to get a more obvious brake light strength - the bulbs have been replaced... any other ideas?
Thanks!
I posted this here as these could be tied together.
I would start with the ground as the brake light switch is tied into the same system as the dash lights.
Check all your grounds and connections. Check the headlight switch. Also have someone hit the brakes and see what the voltage is at the socket and report back as well.
#2 Make sure they are installed properly. The 2-filament bulbs have the little projections on the side of the casing at different heights. The socket has grooves for them that go to different depths [to correspond with pin positions]. They can be installed backwards (with force).
#3 Weak ground connection on the rear harness [black wire running to left side frame rail under fuel tank].
#4 Brake light switch contacts (internal) are burnt/corroded so they will not pass full current to the lights. {need to replace switch to fix this one}
