I have a 69 convertible. This winter i swapped out he rear pig for a friendlier gear ratio. Anyway, when i drive at 50 mph, the car shakes. Not positive but it feels like a up down bounce in the rt frt. Does not do it any slower or faster. Couple questions you guys think i may have lost my alignment changing the pig, threw a wheel weight or both? Would you guys recommend a 4 way alignment after the rear end work anyway? and most importantly, any suggestions to do the work in or around oakland county mi. I have headers and side pipes, being a convertible i have to believe it has to be handled differently due to body flex as well as sitting so low?

i have never heard it called a pig before ....you changed the gears in the differential? 4 wheel alignments is the only way to go. i dont think bouncing in the front end is related to the gear ratio change...i wonder if a belt seperated on your tire? look to see if there is any evidence of a wheel weight missing and balancing would be a good start. good luck bob.
Alignment doesnt usually cause shaking problems, un-ballanced tires and out of round causes that. Never hurts to check alignments though after suspension work.

Lol, i had never heard of it called a pumpkin before i saw it on this forum. If a rear diff is sitting on the ground and has the frt flange on it, it looks like a pig snout.....anyway i did not re gear it i swapped the whole rear diff.mine was a 4:11 and the new one is a 3:73. I know the gearing would not do it, i thought maybe the alignment.
Check your tires for bulges or knots. I had a defective tire, a knot on the side of a front tire that you couldn't see. I took the car to an alignment shop who diagnosed that my front end was out/damaged. I took the car home and removed both front tires to check out the problem and found a huge bulge on the "indside" of one of the tires. Replaced the tire and fixed the problem.
I've heard Ford and Mopar guys call their center sections Pigs, but not Chevy guys...funny. Anyway, the alignment that could have changed would be the camber of the rear wheels, the toe shouldn't have been effected, and therefore, shouldn't have effected the alignment between the front and rear tires. The camber's another story, there are ways to do that at home, but most shops should easily be able to check and adjust that for you.
I agree with the others, the alignment shouldn't be causing the shakes...it's somewhere else. Tire balance is the most likely and easiest to check.
