Default Vac line identificatio

78 l48. I can't seem to figure where these 3 lines go. They run up the drivers side towards the headlights but don't reach that far. The headlight vac lines are also run that route but are connected. One of the loose lines has a t fitting with 4 to 6 inches of line on each end. The second line is a quarter inch line with a yellow pinch style clamp and the last line is a bit shorter but has what appears to be a label indicating breather on it. All of the lines are just black with no coloring on them and originate below the washer fluid bottle....

The assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows all the vacuum lines, their color codes, how they route, and where they connect. Do you have the AIM?

Post a pic of what you've found. Sounds like a PO has plugged some of the vacuum lines.

Hi 85cc,
I'm not sure where the washer fluid bottle is on your 78, but is it possible that these lines started at the vapor canister in the well behind the front wheel apron?
If so they should be connected various places on the engine.
Regards,
Alan

Ran into the same situation on my 80. Three lines, traced them back to the vapor canister which was no longer in use.

yep they smelled heavily of gas fumes and the canister Im referring to is inside the drivers side fender well between the front wheel and the firewall. They definitely look like engine hoses but wasnt sure. I do have a vac line diagram I found while doing a search trying to "check" the headlight system to make sure it was good to go. The lines didnt come up however on the diagram I found... You guys have nailed it and thank you!! Now to get this thing together!! Bought it as a basket case literally, and almost 1 year ago already. JUst havent had the time lol....

That's because they are part of the emissions system and not the headlight vacuum system.
